The Double Minority

Black gay men are a minority in a minority group and there representing has been limited, as this has been projected in my project.
My project surrounds the aspects of gay blackness and being oppressed as a minority with the use of text elaborates on the personal aspect of the men that I have spoken to shows that have told their stories, they’re experiences and their feelings towards being black and gay.
The perception of black men being violent and aggressive and ultra masculine and this has been Fetishisation. It has been very prevalent in the societal pressures in the LGBTQ community of the ideal gay man, where the black man is not noticed. Instead of showing the perception of a fetish or an aggressor, I wanted to give the men that I spoke to a chance to show a true representation of themselves that didn’t give a sexualised appearance.
